Abstract Any free energy functions can be applied to analyse the stability performance of dielectric elastomer electromechanical coupling system, proposed by Zhao and Suo. In this paper, Mooney-Rivlin elastic strain energy function with two material constants is used to analyse the stability performance of dielectric elastomer electromechanical coupling system. It is coupled with the electric energy density function with linear permittivity to obtain the free energy function of the system. Numerical results are also calculated for further understanding of the dielectric elastomer stability performance and the actuators’ design and fabrication.
